There are two versions of this lens. The latter has an "R" suffix. Differences from the non-R version: 1) Cosmetic - basically adding a cover to the bayonet mount of the hood; and 2) functionality - it has a newer firmware version (which I've read can focus faster with the newer bullet cameras). Visually, the two versions are considered identical. Since the non-R version is usually cheaper to find, I bought it and just updated the firmware (using the free software that can be downloaded from the Olympus website). It focuses on my E-PM1 very quickly.
