I wanted to split the outer cornice. Couldn't figure out why it couldn't screw into the lamp socket. As a result, I realized that the neck of the light bulb fits into the cartridge, and on this splitter the neck is a little short. I ended up having to use an extension cord and then screw the splitter in. Problem solved, except the bulb (and its weight) is now 4 inches farther from the socket than I intended.
