Have bought two of these in the last few years. I put one on the log splitter fuel tank and pressure washer tank. At first I didn't realize that these devices weren't working until several hours (6-8) of use had passed. I pressed the button once and both devices worked every time the devices worked. Nowhere on the printout did I see that the button needs to be pressed once to enable these blocks to work initially. I haven't touched it since the first button press. Maybe I have two units that are a bit different from the others. Some items have paper that you must pull out of the battery compartment to turn the items on. This saves battery power while you're on the store shelves. These hour meters didn't have that. My advice is to watch the device immediately during installation. If it doesn't work, try pressing the button once.
