I eventually upgraded to 4k and got a LG OLED C6P55 TV and a Denon AVR-X4400H which were the brains of the operation. I first bought 2 Apple branded HDMI cables which were next to a new Apple TV 4K that I recently bought to get things going. They passed a 4K signal through the device, but lacked the bandwidth to transmit HDR. I then got a proprietary cable from Monster that said it could transfer around 37Gbps and plugged it in between the receiver and the TV, but no joy (using an Apple cable straight from the Apple TV 4k to the TV actually worked). I then tried connecting a second Apple cable to my X-Box One S to test a 4K UHD movie, but no fun (connected through a receiver or to a TV). These HDMI 2.1 cables solved all those problems and now everything works in full force.
