This cutlery set is fantastic! It's incredibly light, strong and elegant :^) There were a lot of comments about the straw and the splinters in it and yes there were splinters but I just wrapped some sandpaper around the little dowel and fed it through the straw a bit and now it's perfect! :^D Some people asked if there was a coating and some people said it was lacquer. However, there is no lacquer coating on the cutlery, it is a bit of pickling oil used to seal natural wood and prevent bacterial growth and the like. Walnut, tung, grapeseed, and hemp oils are some of the most commonly used oils. So if you want to know what they use specifically email the seller. In general, do not use washing-up liquid or washing-up liquid, as these chemicals can be absorbed by the wood. So I do a simple scrub with hot water and salt and if possible let them dry somewhere where the sun will hit them as UV rays kill bacteria. If you take good care of this set, it will serve you well :^D
