Review on Ascent Native Fuel Protein Powder by Angela Moore

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Product smells like cocoa, very faint cocoa odor

I am impressed with the ingredients, both in type and quantity. Few ingredients compared to 20+ for other proteins. The product smells like cocoa, very faint cocoa, but smells like real food. As weird as it sounds, I love that it doesn't have any grit like most protein blends do. I know the sand used in other protein blends is safe to consume, but I never liked the idea of drinking sand. has decent taste. With 8 ounces of water, it's too thin to taste like that. 6 ounces of water and you can taste the chocolate a little more, that's good enough but certainly not great. With 4 ounces of water, it tastes like a cold hot chocolate drink. This is the first protein powder I've tried and it tastes really great with only 4 ounces of water. The less fluid I have to drink to get the protein I need, the happier I am. Others added more sugar or a sugar substitute to make it taste better based on the 8-ounce standard. It has less sugar, so it can't absorb as much liquid and still tastes good. I don't see it as a problem because now it's like a quick hit of chocolate protein and I'm fine. Not just any drink I'm trying to swallow. My only criticism is the packaging. I can't stand those packs that some protein manufacturers use. Maybe it's more environmentally friendly, I don't know. I ended up pouring it into a large Tupperware container used to hold flour. The protein needs to be shaken from time to time, which is risky with this type of bag as it is very difficult to seal. So put it in a solid container so you can shake it without scattering protein dust everywhere. Good stuff. After eating maybe 30 different brands of protein for 10 years, I think I've found a good one here.

Pros
  • 25g protein per scoop, 5.7g natural BCAAs and a clean panel with minimal ingredients
Cons
  • I will write back
