I bought these in gray for both of our bedrooms and they are great for dirty clothes. You need to drape the mesh on all sides (not much) for them to work properly. Since these bags don't wash well, we put a reasonably sized plastic bin liner in each basket and covered the outside (see photos below; sorry they're so dark). When the laundry basket is almost full, we take out the plastic bag, leaving the basket free and smelling much better than if it was in direct contact with unwashed garbage. Forgot to mention: we live in a hundred year old house with heavy doors that don't usually open fully when a person walks by, so each of our clothes baskets is perfectly secure behind each bedroom's door. If you live in a new house or dorm, you may need a few inches more space in front of the door or somewhere else entirely. It was a great purchase for our home and at such a reasonable price and I would recommend it.
