5 star material, soft and very pleasant to the touch. But like an electric blanket, it works at best with 3 stars. It has 20 temperature modes, but the first 11-12 practically do not emit any noticeable heat. Even at the maximum setting of 20, the heat generated is minimal, which equates to a setting of 3 or 4 [out of 20] on my old Sunbeam. The fuser surface is not backlit, with only a faint orange glow visible on either side of the display, requiring you to keep your face very close to read at night or in low light. I keep it because I like this stuff and my house doesn't get too cold at night. I've only been using it for 2 weeks, so I can't guarantee durability. I hope that a negative update is not necessary.
