It will protect, but there have been some issues.
Definitely strong enough to protect against most rocks and logs. The only problem was that my cap started leaking when I installed it. I even replaced the gasket with a new one and it still leaked a bit. I had to install a shim between the guard and the differential cover to apply more pressure if needed. Besides being a good guard.
