I've only been cycling for a year and I've learned a lot by "doing". trying out certain driving techniques and understanding what works and what doesn't work, making adjustments to your driving behavior and then seeing if things got better or worse etc. It was the same when I found out what was going on behind me. .First I had a mirror that could be worn on the wrist with a velcro strap. To be honest it was completely useless. First, a mirror at my wrist or the handlebars of my bike didn't help me see the ROAD. Also the quality of the mirror itself was very poor. I ended up leaving the mirror at the Salvation Army. There, for a while, I just relied on turning my head and using peripheral vision. But it's not that perfect. Then I came here to Revain after looking at reviews of other mirrors and this model looked like a winner. I've been using this mirror for about a month. First you need to spend about five minutes installing this mirror on your helmet. This requires a bit of trial and error. holds the mirror and hand in place. wear a helmet. Determining if you can see enough behind you, look in the mirror, etc. You then need to attach some zip ties to hold the mirror and its arm securely in place. However. It's not like when you have a mirror and a hand on your helmet, the placement of the mirror has to be "just right". The reason for this is that the arm itself is made up of separate 'hinges', if you will, which while held firmly in place are also flexible enough to allow you to make the necessary adjustments. So typically the arm consists of a series of small inward and outward bends, positioning the mirror itself in the ONLY correct physical position that gives you the best view of the road behind you. Also keep in mind that the exact position of the arm, individual joints etc. can actually be best determined when you are riding the bike seat ie or at that height and position where and when you really NEED to be able to , to see behind. When I first started using this mirror, my brain had to "switch" a little between looking at the road in front of me and looking in the mirror to my left to see the road behind me. If you want your brain to do a little work with the collage. ;-) But in no time at all, everything merges without any problems. I'm so impressed with this mirror and I'm so "confident" in it. When I'm driving, I often don't even feel the need to turn my head to see the real road behind me. I just look in the mirror and if the road behind me is clear then I drive more in the middle of the road (it's safer there and more likely the cars parked in front will see me on the road and not the door me '). As soon as my mirror shows a car or two approaching from behind, I drive more on the side of the road. This allows cars behind me to pass, and I also know that I still probably won't get locked out the door because parked cars can clearly see other cars (and my bike next to them) passing right around. I don't overlook cars that may be in my blind spot, when I look in the rearview mirror I often tilt my head slightly just to capture my blind spot. Other than that, I rely on myself and UNCONDITIONALLY trust this mirror to give me a clear view of what's happening on the road behind me. Thank you EVT for such a well designed product!
