Having stayed in several AirBnbs this summer we decided to take our knives with us instead as we could rely on the poor quality in rented kitchens. When it arrived it smelled strongly of some kind of organic compound and we washed it twice and hung it out to air for a couple of weeks to reduce the smell. Now that we have been on the road for a month and a half, I can say that this knife roller is not suitable. The knives are held in the pockets by the handles and in 2 out of 10 pockets the seams have come undone so that the knives fall out. Since the knives aren't held by the flap in the other direction, we now have to worry about the knives falling out at both ends. The lining was also cut in two places with my chef's knife. Conclusion - I do not recommend this knife roll.
