Review on Fisher-Price Smart Stages Piggy Bank: Laugh, Learn, and Enjoy Playtime while Learning! by Brian Campbell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

good for fine motor and special needs kids

So I thought about getting this stupid pig for five months and finally broke down and got it. I don't know why I didn't get it sooner, it's a great item. It's nice that I've waited long enough to get the 'new' version, although I'm not sure what actually changed. My daughter is 18 months but has special needs and has global delays. I've read several websites and blogs that recommend this to help with fine motor skills. Watching my daughter diligently put coins into this pig, I can say with confidence that it helps develop this skill. My husband and I both commented on how we would give up throwing coins in - his sentence was about the same as throwing it on the floor. Luckily my daughter has more stamina than either of us and she keeps putting those stupid coins in the stupid pig. I had this piggy on my in-laws' Christmas revain list but no one got her and now looking back I'm not sure she would have been ready then. I think the typical one year old can figure this out, but my original desire to create this toy was to teach her the concept of "inside". While this will help with this, kids will need decent fine motor skills to maneuver the coins. I can't wait to see how she uses this fine motor toy!
