Review on ELECROW 8" Portable Touchscreen for Raspberry Pi, 1280X800P Display, Integrated Speakers & HDMI Support by Chris Russo

Great product and support

I found this to be an exceptional product from a technical standpoint, backed by dedicated, customer service oriented staff. I chose this touchscreen display from Elecrow after trying half a dozen similar sizes from different vendors for a Raspberry Pi 4. I needed a display for a mechanical controller console. I was looking for a bright 7 or 8 inch touchscreen that is both reliable and energy efficient. I seem to have received one of the first units produced that had a slight connection issue. Due to my busy schedule, I didn't have time to resolve the issue within Revain's 30 day return window, so I later contacted Elecrow directly via the support email. Alice was quick to help me and sent a replacement which solved the problem straight away. Since then I have bought three more and have been using them almost 7/24 with no problems for several months. Now I am confident and will purchase more units for this and other projects. (My requirements are usually for a 10 year life cycle). Factory brightness/contrast/volume settings of 50% ensure good visibility and sound right out of the box. With these values, the display consumes less than 5 watts. This is actually less than most 7-inch displays I originally tested at the same brightness. I have this 8" touchscreen that is only powered/driven by a Pi4 via a USB-C port with a 10ft Anker USB-A to USB-C cable. (Both the Pi4 and the display together draw less than 8W, which is easy for a standard 3/3.5A Pi4 power supply). For video/audio, I use a 10ft Rankie Micro HDMI HDMI cable and a 6" UGreen "mini HDMI to HDMI female" adapter since the display has a mini HDMI male connector. All connections feel very good, even with cables that I sometimes have to stretch due to my application. VESA mounts make mounting much easier than similarly sized displays that use the manufacturer's unique mounting patterns and screws. It fits and looks very professional on an anodized aluminum mount made by a colleague. I also find that the aluminum case has a more durable (and hygienic) finish than the more common plastic cases. All users will appreciate it.
