Review on πŸ”‘ Honeywell Ademco 5834-4 Four-Button Wireless Key Remote - Convenience at Your Fingertips by Erik Haynes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best alarm fob I've ever used - although slightly less range than the old version

Bought a pair of these after losing one of my old fobs. Pro -------* Compact (compared to old key fobs)* Easy to use (relatives/friends were confused which key to press in older versions)* Very flexible configuration (including key combinations)* Light gives visual indication transmissions * Encryption supported * The recessed keys don't seem to get accidentally pressed in my pocket as often. Con-------* The range seems to be a bit shorter than the old keychains. A little more about cheating. My old key fobs have always worked from my driveway, although sometimes with minimal fuss (holding them in different positions). 5834-4 couldn't have raised my alarm more often. To solve this problem I replaced my 1st floor keyboard with a 6162RF as the receiver was built into the keyboard (as opposed to the receiver attached to my control panel in the basement) and placed it on the driveway level. Since then I haven't had any more problems with keychains. However, if you have old-fashioned trinkets that you want to extend the range of, note that they may have a shorter range. can't find a way to turn it on. So if you need encryption, get these 5834-4s (which are the same price anyway), even if you only intend to program two loops. Please learn how to program the alarm panel before attempting to use it. I don't know anything about Lynx, but Vista programming can be a little awkward if you're not familiar with it. However, if you're comfortable with them, it's a lot cheaper to get them yourself than paying ADT or an alarm dealer for them.
