I used to check cables with a two-wire power meter. I touched the wire at each end of the harness. If the meter beeped, that was good. If not, then I tried for another 5 minutes thinking I was, and sometimes I was. It is often difficult to get these pins to touch some of the pins in cable connectors. The fact of the matter is that this is a poor method of testing cables. Now for the good. The Pyle 13-in-1 Audio Cable Tester is a great piece of equipment. Let me make that clear by saying that I don't think this is the final stage in the development of this box. It can be improved. But it solves a lot of problems and is built like a tank. It doesn't come with a lot of instructions, but little by little you'll find that you need to reset the displays when you're checking for intermittent issues or disconnecting and reconnecting. It takes some calculations to figure out which indicators relate to which connector pins, but once you've done that, it becomes a very effective tool. He says he makes a sound. This is a test tone, not a continuity tone. I wish it had a continuous beep, but they may add that one day. Some connectors are so close together that certain connector types can't be connected side by side, but I've never encountered an unsolvable situation. You can always manage. It works between any input and any output, so you can always attach an adapter and plug one end into a different connector type. I'm so happy to have all these plugs in one box that I'm really happy with this one despite its few downsides: 1) I wish these plugs were positioned so there was more space between them. 2) I want a simple pass through tone for situations when you can't look at the box. I know this is an issue which leads work but the audio would be a good start for blind situations. There are many cables and you don't worry about intermittent failures, you worry about continuity. The light still indicates an intermittent error, but if you're just replacing a lot of cables, the fewer buttons we press, the better. Despite these (and possibly other) feature requests on my part, I find what has already been excellent, but I also say that it only deserves 4 stars. I would give it 5 stars but that would mean that it is perfect as is and the box doesn't need any improvement. I love this box but I hope it matures and is even easier to use than it is. But don't hold your breath for it to happen. Feel free to test your settings if you like. You need this box now. I highly recommend it! shoshi
