Review on High-Performance 30-Inch Stainless Steel Gas Cooktop DT5708 with 5 Burners - LPG/NG Convertible, Thermocouple Protection by Duane Kerr

Revainrating 4 out of 5

In general, I am satisfied with the stove for such a price.

gas hobs can be insanely expensive. So when we moved into a new house and didn't like the one there (beautiful brand name but only 3 burners?!) we started looking at unnamed brand options. UNPACKING The packaging was fairly good but as you can see from the photos there were many dents, scratches and scuffs. It doesn't appear to have been repaired or returned so I'm not sure how it got any markings other than at the factory or during packaging. In the photo with the biggest dent, it appears to be due to the placement of a wok attachment tucked under the hob. If you're really picky about how a new inexpensive device looks, be prepared to return it if it turns out to have lots of minor issues, like ours. It didn't bother me much though (but you can bet if I were to spend a thousand or more I'd want it to be flawless). INSTALLATION. Husband is a jack of all trades and had no problem removing the old hob and installing this. one. It seemed pretty simple - turn off gas, disconnect gas line and unplug stove, reconnect new gas line, plug in. We had to run to Home Depot to get a new gas line connector - the one that came with it was too small. We also had to buy sealant (we used sticky foam) to attach the hob to the counter. We were then able to use the original brackets to attach the hob (they didn't all fit, but we were able to use most). COOKING I do it like this: I have five burners of different sizes. The wok attachment is cool and I need to find a pan to use with it to try it out. (It definitely doesn't look like a professional stovetop/wok burner though, as they usually have a huge flame that rises closer to the edge of the pan.) I've found that there isn't much of a difference between the burners on all LOW ( single flame) and HIGH (three flames). On previous hobs I've used, there's a distinct difference between low (barely visible flames) and high (screaming flames overrunning the rim of the pot). With that, even looking at it directly, I don't see much of a difference. At first it seemed like a total deal breaker, but when I need a smaller flame I just move it to one of the smaller burners. I think this is a bargain for a cheap 5 burner stove. Overall I'm happy with this hob at this price point. If you are not comfortable at all, I recommend having a professional install it. If you are good at youtube video tutorial, I think it will be easier than home projects.
