Review on 📞 AT&T CL2940 Corded Phone with Speakerphone, Extra-Large Tilt Display and Buttons, Caller ID and Call Waiting, Audio Assist – Black by Roberta Johnson

This phone had everything I needed in terms of features that not all phones sold here have. Wall - no AC/DC power required - detachable cord from handset to phone so I can replace it with a longer one - ability to adjust ringer volume including ability to completely mute the ringer Additional comments: ---- - ---- -- ---------- Some people have complained in reviews that the phone's speaker doesn't work or is too quiet to hear. Mine works fine but I put new batteries in it. Maybe that was the problem (or AT&T has poor quality control on these phones and some of them are defective). I can't remember if I read this in the reviews for this phone or some of the others I've looked at here, but I can switch back and forth between speakerphone and handset if needed without dropping the call. To my surprise, this was the complaint I read about (which would have been a terrible design). Again, I don't remember if it was written for this phone or some other model. I read many b4 reviews and decided to buy this one. The wall mount works great. Absolutely stable on my wall, perfectly fixed to the 2 standard screws that are already part of my wall socket with the wall bracket provided. You then have to remove the tiny part of the handset stand that attaches to the base unit, flip it over, and then put it back in place to properly mate with the vertically hanging phone. My old phone had the same one so I knew how to do it. Otherwise, the phone will just fall to the ground after you hang it. Complaints about the display (or the phone itself) not being backlit are true, but none of my other phones have it, so I'm used to it. The ability to tilt the display at different angles helped me figure out the best way to position the screen so that glare/light reflections wouldn't affect my ability to see the display. There is one thing on the phone that lights up when it rings, which is very handy for me when I have my ringer volume completely turned off. A few odd features: ------------------ ---------I had to turn down the volume using the arrows on the base unit because this caused an annoying Buzzing and reverberation when speaking could only be heard from my side. It has useless settings for "HOME AREA CODE" and a few for "LOCAL AREA CODE". I'm not even sure what they are for but I made the mistake of including my area code for HOME and one of the LOCAL # which resulted in me being able to call someone back during a call. log. If someone called me from my area code the phone will reset the area code from the call back which means it will NOT go through. About 20 years ago this metropolis only had one area code, but now there are many and you MUST include them as part of every number you dial, even if you are calling from the same area code. So I had to delete what I typed for both, but can't figure out HOW to do it! Instead, I had to enter an incorrect area code (000) for both. So what's happening now is that EVERY call I make using the callback feature from the call log gets the '1' added to the long distance number - even for the ones that some are using the long haul/1 " not mandatory. This would have been a huge PITA a few years ago when even local calls would have charged higher long distance rates, but luckily now that my service is VOIP and not analog, all calls are charged the same. It's annoying though, and I think it's something left over from a technology that's about 20 years old (or maybe there are still places in the US that don't require you to add an area code when making local calls, so it would be useful in such cases cases) ?). I've only had the phone for about 2 months so I can't say how long it will last. Fingers crossed that it will be at least 10 years. My previous phone lasted almost 30 years and was only about $9 with the same features (and no quirks) but it was starting to go crazy (switching to pulse instead of key tone, blanking the display and such despite multiple battery changes) .
