I bought these to help a STANDARD 24lb dog (with a bit of a belly) stay afloat. The fit was perfect. And of course she was paralyzed the first time she was carried. How will you fix it? Throw her out of the boat! In fact, it was more like holding her by the handle at the top and lowering her into the water. In my opinion things would have been different at first but then she relaxed and started doing what dogs do in the water only with more ease and relaxation on the part of the pack leader (my wife) who knew this is not so. She will not drown 50 feet above her head in water falling off a boat.
