Review on Organic Coco Bliss - Low EC And PH Coconut Coir Pith For Healthy Plants And Gardens - OMRI Listed Potting Soil Substrate With 100% Natural Coconut Fibers (10 Blocks, 650 Grams) by Shane Miller

A better processing method.

There is a difference in coconut coir - mainly in how it's presented (small or large bricks), how quickly it absorbs water when being rehydrated, and how friable it is (easy to break apart) after rehydration.Coco Bliss is the good stuff. It gets A pluses in all those categories.I'm not a gardener. I use coconut coir for a composting toilet. Prior to this purchase (of 5 smaller bricks), I had purchased a single large brick from a different supplier. It was cheaper, and I figured it could be cut into usable chunks with my bandsaw. That worked okay, but there was apparent mineral content in the coir, as I noticed quite a bit of sparking when I made those cuts. (A bit hard on band saw blades.)That was not necessarily a deal-killer. But when I submerged those smaller chunks in water, nothing much happened. It took hours, rather than minutes, for the coir to rehydrate. And when I tried to break it apart after it had absorbed water, there were still stubborn patches that had to be 'massaged' by hand to break down. Oh well.Again, Coco Bliss absorbs water quickly, and breaks apart easily. Whatever processing method they've come up with, it produces a better product from those two standpoints. But in fairness I'll say that the actual composting properties of Coco Bliss and the other 'less manageable' coir seem to be about the same. Once put to use, they both work just fine.Edit: After using Coco Bliss for more than a month, I think my last statement is wrong. It also seems to function better in a composting toilet than the earlier, cheaper version that I used, which had a tendency to solidify. Coco Bliss stays friable (that word again) longer.

Pros
  • Coco pith promotes healthy root development
Cons
  • Can be difficult to store long-term
