Good quality where it matters, but not everything

This is an $83 coffee grinder. not cheap but not super fancy for $200. All the important parts have a good fit and finish to work well and last a while. All parts that do not exhibit any noticeable inferior surface finish, clearance/fitting, etc. are machined or stamped. probably the best price you can get for a real grinder. Here's a more detailed version: * How it's made: - easy to clean (including full cleaning/disassembly) - the burr and its parts are machined and seem solid - the shaft uses 2 bearings and is very smooth. There may be 0.5 mm play between shaft and bearing - not optimal, but sufficient. The more expensive ones usually have no play, which ensures they'll last "forever" - the structure holding everything together is plastic, and maybe there's a fit issue here. A protective ring is screwed into the plastic construction - this means that the screws will eventually destroy the plastic and no longer be able to hold the ring. It's fine, especially if you never open it, but if you do, well, it's one thing. This can be remedied with larger screws or metal inserts (wish they did that for $80+ but it's not that much) - the logo print on the top is very good quality and I suspect it will fade within the year becomes. obviously it doesn't matter much. * In use: - the degree of grinding is even - the coarseness is easy to adjust (yes, you have to reset to "0" if you forget how many clicks you make, it takes a whole 10 seconds;-) - the grinding effect is pretty good. There is some side to side play (about 5mm so definitely more than noticeable but not a big deal). Get it if: You want the best value for money. Yes it's not cheap but if you go cheaper you will be disappointed. They make sure it will work for the next few years and give you the same fine grind as everything else, including more expensive grinders. It's pretty good, but it's not what I would call ideal. You want it to last 10-20 years of everyday use. And yet there are solid 4 stars!
