Don't buy this Chromebook!

The Chromebook seems to be everything it should be and what I wanted it to be. BUT it goes spontaneously into dark mode (I think that's what ASUS calls it). The background is black, the symbols are white. All photographs look like old fashioned black and white negatives. I went to some user forums and found that this happens to others and no one can figure out how it works or how to get rid of it. I chatted with an ASUS technician for an hour and found no solution. He ended up just ending my call after running out of ideas. A big problem. UPDATE: I found the problem. Somehow the high contrast mode was turned on. It was in such a dark corner of the situation that I might just happen to be there myself. So there's something about background updates from Asus etc that randomly flips the switch. This should be one of the first 10 or even 5 things to try when someone calls support with a similar issue. ASUS support specialists worked with me for hours online and on the phone before we stumbled across the Switch almost by accident. Customer service is polite but ignorant. Otherwise, I like the Chromebook. I've had complete glitches with Apple Genius Bars (a $500 screen replacement the Genius told me about turned out to be a $5 third-party antenna cable. So, to be fair, Asus support is utterly incompetent , but – sometimes – so is tech support of all major companies.
