Review on Efficient Time Management with Sunbeam 408441 61040 Timer: 60 Minutes Integrated by Kristin Rogness

Revainrating 2 out of 5

This was the only timer we bought four years ago that didn't work!

In 2017 we bought three or four other timers together to do a real comparison test as the timers became unreliable after several store bought timers failed within a few months of purchase . It's the only one that has lasted over a year... and it's still working after daily use in our kitchen! So shall we buy another one? We'd certainly do it if we had to... but we're not doing it yet! (Actually I'll be writing reviews of other timers that have failed. Ugh. We even had one shaped like a lemon - and it was...) Best to use an old and tried design like this Sunbeam. Timer. I hope they continue to do it "like before"! Although the bell is loud and appears to be a timer reservoir, it is not very accurate as the mechanism is a cheaper coil spring mechanism. In an unconfirmed comparison with smartphones, clocks and microwave timers, the accuracy is plus/minus 10% in minutes, which is good enough for cooking in the oven. Also, as the documentation states, you won't be able to keep a time under 5 minutes with this either, as there isn't enough tension on the spring mechanism just winding it down to such a low setting. As instructed, I religiously turned it on full and then set the time to the target time I want the alarm to go off and it has always worked (if you remember to get it up to full voltage first). set to 10 minutes or more. Basically, you don't want to use this timer if you're trying to do something strictly scientific, and you can't reliably use it to measure time, especially for short intervals of less than 10 minutes. It does what it's supposed to do as a good oven or cooking timer, not for making quick syrups, three-minute eggs, etc.

Pros
  • Home and Kitchen
Cons
  • Don't really like it, it'll do
