It's hard to believe a jar is something anyone would be interested in, but I've recently started fermenting and gotten a pretty good bug bite. So I managed to acquire quite a nice collection of glasses and bottles in a very short time. They are just perfect for the gallon size with plastic screw caps. I have some broccoli in one and some cauliflower in the other, both work well and once a day I taste them and see how they feel. While the lids screw tight if desired and are completely airtight, I only press the lids down a little for now to release any build-up gases. I may eventually buy some bubblers and mount them on the lids but so far they work great the way they are and are perfect for what I do. and i like that they are sold in pairs so i have one to cook a new batch of what i make while the other is ready to be eaten and eaten. It's also good to know that you can douse them with boiling water straight from the stove to sterilize them before using them again without the risk of breaking them. When they arrived each had a piece of muslin inside and a rubber band to fasten it. To be honest I didn't think I'd really need it given what I was doing, but about a day after they arrived I found I was mixing up something very good that needed straining and my best sieve still wasn't good enough but I was thinking of muslin fabric and it worked great, a trap to feel every particle and let all the liquid through easily. so i still came in handy. Of course, the fabric is meant to cover the jar while whatever you're brewing (kefir, kombucha, etc.) is fermenting, keeping flies or other contaminants out, and each piece is certainly large enough with the included elastic strap to also be the perfect size for that particular one Purpose. I'm very happy with these jars and expect that as I start using all the different types of items and combinations I've put together, I'll be able to better assess my needs as I use up what I've already made and make new batches, I will probably order at least 2 more if not 4. These glasses are just great and I would definitely like to have a few more.! Highly Recommended.! ;-)
