I'm so glad I took the risk! I wanted the lighting in the planted tank to be good enough to allow my medium to high light plants in my standard 10 gallon tank (low tech setup and I'm a beginner so my expectations are low) a little to grow. I was torn between this and Nicrew, but the built in timer and fun night effects bribed me because I don't have a timer output at the moment. The full spectrum Nicrew probably looks brighter because it has more white light LEDs and may have a better spectrum for growing in an aquarium, but I took a chance and hoped that the performance of this flashlight would make up the difference. For now I'm sold! How this works with the plants I can't say yet as my plants haven't settled in yet and I don't have much aquasoil as this was a last minute rescue tank but it's VERY bright and you can adjust the intensity in levels change from 10%. I'm still trying to figure out how to tell the light what color I want to use during the moonlight setting (moonlight cycles through multiple colors when manually set but is preset to show blue during the moonlight timer). I'm totally impressed with this light and honestly I'm considering investing a second for my other ten gallons.
