My 5 year old son got this for Easter. They blew it up, filled the bottom with water (indicates using sand or water). We took him to his grandma's to play with in her finished carpeted basement and has a large open space to play in (her finished basement doesn't have much more than 2 sofas and a TV). We made sure he didn't get too close to anything that could pierce him (sharp table corners, other toys, etc.) and told my son not to 'grab' him, lie on him, jump on him, etc .I was with him while he was playing and he loved playing with him but unfortunately the next day he had a small crack in the floor that was filled with water (fun - had to mop up the water that was leaking everywhere) . We tried patching the tear with a patch kit, but it didn't patch it well enough to hold more water.
