I have various YKZ magnetic charging cables of various lengths, some with USB-A ends and some ending with USB A C. So far they all seem to be reasonably long-lasting and they charge properly all the devices I've tried them with. However, they have a semi-serious problem: when using magnetic USB-C connectors on my Pixel 4a phone, you have to plug them into the "right side up" cable. Despite the fact that both the connector that goes into the phone's USB-C port and the end of the cable appear to be symmetrical, there's still some ups and downs, it's just impossible to visually determine which is which and if you connect the device wrong, it won't charge. If my phone is facing up and the glowing blue lightning bolt on the cord is also facing up, my phone is charging. If I rotate one of these 180 degrees, the phone won't charge. To check this, I removed the magnetic connector from the phone's USB-C port, flipped it over, then plugged it back in and connected the phone to the cable with the screen and the blue light on the cable facing up. Of course, there is no charging, because the plug in the telephone connection is now "upside down”. Not every USB-C device I've tried with these cables exhibits this behavior; For example, the Roccat Kone Pro Air wireless mouse charges in any "orientation". Perhaps this is an odd feature of the Pixel 4a. But still, it's a little frustrating. As we all know, one of the main benefits of USB-C, along with faster charging and transfer speeds, is that it's symmetrical, so you don't have to fiddle around to make sure you've got a cable plugged in. just like USB-A. Since there seems to be a "right" and a "wrong" way of connecting these cables, at least with some devices, this advantage is no longer universally applicable.
