On the advice of other reviewers, I was able to use this device to set up the M1 Mac mini for standalone operation with 4K screen resolution. That is, 1. Disable "System Preferences" > "Security & Privacy" > "FileVault". If I understand correctly, this allows the computer to boot to the point where screen sharing is enabled without prior authentication.2. Enable System Settings > Sharing > Screen Sharing. It is optional (?) to do the following: 2.a. Under "Computer Settings". Allow anyone to request permission to control the screen. 2 B. Also in the computer settings. Set a password that VNC viewers can use to control the screen.3. Connect the HDMI connector.4. Reload.
