Nice when you get good but random production + shipping

The first item arrived with almost no packing material between the outer box and the inner (retail) box. The lamp filament had broken and that was much worse, the best side of the salt block had separated from the rest leaving a very rough surface. Unacceptable! The replacement came with no inner box - just a standard shipping box, thick paper, and tape. On the way it moved enough to smack the dimmer into the cord, but with the first cord/dimmer and second bulb I was in business. I'm not really surprised that the two batches had different sized onions. The top is definitely darker than the bottom. Because the manufacturer only drilled 4-5 inches into the 8 inch block of salt, so the light has to get through a lot more salt at the top. I've considered drilling more even with a 1" wood drill bit, but the inside seems spotty. Polyurethane?., so I finally decided it wasn't worth the risk and tried to get it "just right". Because there is more salt. , the lamp is not as bright as a friend's smaller (5-8 lb) lamp, but the light in a dark room is much nicer. Let's see why a large lamp has a better color and looks more interesting when lit. Finally, the length of the cable is sufficient, but the dimmer is oddly located about halfway between the bulb and the plug, making it difficult to work on a table. there is no attention to detail at all. Bottom line - my lamp is nice, but I've been a bit lucky in that I've done enough in two attempts to assemble a decent one.
