Review on ÖKOCAT All-Natural Wood Clumping Litter: Enhanced for SEO by Erica Johnson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great granular litter with almost no tracking, no smell, feels a lot cleaner but takes creativity to figure out how to get off.

As someone who has been looking for a cat litter that won't end up in my bed and on the floor, I LOVE this product (Okocat for long haired breeds). My hyperactive little bunny (aka a medium to long haired part Sime beauty named Mia) loves to rummage in her litter box. She also loves to jump right out of her litter box right onto my poor always suffering bed. As someone who has to keep a box in their room (due to lack of space and an overly curious pup) having a clean space is very important to me and as such I have struggled to keep it clean for myself and for me stay. my cat since I got her 6 months ago. All the other throws ended up everywhere and either they had issues with dust (I'm allergic), with a strong smell/perfume, or they're just generally bad for my Mia's health (I'd rather I didn't get lung cancer or asthma from using them of clay fillers, but let's be honest, clay has been the best option for us so far). Unfortunately, I thought I would have to live with little disgusting pieces of junk in my bed and on the floor forever. Also, crystals weren't an option because my last cat actually died from health issues caused by his crystal kitty litter (it was horrific and I strongly encourage people to research the health issues associated with crystals before throwing them innocently at them bring home). Anyway, after trial and error with just about every cat litter under the sun (thank goodness I have one adventurous cat who will try everything), I came across the Okocat for long hair breeds. So, all the good things about this litter: 1. Almost no tracking (just a bit around the box when an excited kitten pops out). 2. There is no odor other than a slight woody odor right after the cat has peed (if you notice an odor after your cat poops try adding an inch or 2 of pellets as my cat just needs extra pellets to pee understand how it comes all covered) 3. It seems/feels cleaner as Okocat claims to kill 99% of all bacteria (unlike other fillers that claim to only kill odor causing bacteria. What about all the other nasty ones Things; matters?!). 4 It clumps pretty well (some of them fall apart, but I have a solution to this problem if you read on) for a natural filler. 5. It's natural and healthier for my cat than other options. Cons (not many, but worth considering): 1. You have to shop because the prices here can be good some days and terrible the next. I recently found this filler on another site for $10 less per box. So yes. Make sure you get the best price. 2. There is some dust. It's not a big deal, but if you're allergic like me, you can use some sort of sieve to put in clean litter so you don't have to empty the sawdust into the bowl every time you put in new litter. after a few weeks of use (even if i shovel like i do 2 times a day) you will notice that there is a bit of sawdust in the shell simply because the filler crumbles while digging etc. This works a little on my allergies though. I can cough easily (at least for a few minutes) while cleaning as long as I don't expose my cat to dust that could cause lung cancer in the future - I would like to point out that other types of litter are made to make my cat cough, but it doesn't seem to affect her that much. 3. It takes some ingenuity to actually leave a nice and clean box during the scooping process, unless you're used to clumping granular litter. So let's get to my solution! Okocat didn't design a dedicated scoop to collect this litter, so you'll need to find something that won't pick up too much of the good litter, as well as get rid of the small pieces that can separate from the main urine, creating clumps when scooping (faeces aren't a problem, they dry easily and are easy to remove). While some people suggest a Catit cat litter scoop, I haven't used it as I have back problems and can't bend down to get to the litter to scoop it out without sweating. So after some trial and error I found a great and easy option. First I got a PURRR-FECT SCOOP (I already had it) which is basically a garbage shovel that you can leave while using it. The latest version of this shovel has holes in the front wide enough to let pellets through and small holes in the back that can catch even tiny shards that would normally be overlooked when shoveling. This is an excellent owl. However, it's too small to quickly sift through the whole box, and if you scoop too much at once, everything will clog and become unusable. So I only use this to pick up small pieces that elude my main scoop. My main shovel basically had to be made because there are no standing shovels with holes big enough for pellets (as far as I could find). BUT, it was easy to do. At my local Walmart I found an ordinary metal shovel with huge holes (perfect for pellets) but with a tiny handle. So I spent $2 to get 1 inch PVC pipe from a local hardware store, had the store clerk cut the pipe to about 3 feet long, and used waterproof (just in case!) Gorilla tape to fix everything to stick together. Basically I just stuck the handle of a metal shovel into one end of the PVC pipe and then wrapped the whole thing in gorilla tape to hold it in place. weeks, and the scooping process is MUCH easier. I can remove any clumps, any small bits, etc., and the added bonus is that when I'm cleaning, my face is far enough away from the box as I no longer have to bend down to scoop, so my allergies are virtually non-existent. present Influenced by any sawdust present. So, to reiterate, I LOVE the filler, but the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because, aside from the pricing issues, I had to do a bit of troubleshooting to get it perfect for me close. Once that was done, I found that I'm happier with Okocat than anyone else, and my Mia is happier too.
