09/12/19 - I am updating my rating to 5 stars because this french press makes GREAT coffee! We haven't been able to test whether a vacuum jug keeps the liquid hot for a long time, as we always drink everything at once. This french press is excellent. We've had no issues with seepage or buildup (although that's to be expected with this style of coffee brewing) and we didn't notice any oily smell. We love this pot! It is beautifully made and a pleasure to look at. 9/6/19: (Our first rating was 3 stars.). We bought this French Press coffee maker and used it once. My first thoughts are that it makes great coffee with almost no buildup. The double filter system and the pot as a whole are easy to clean. These qualities weren't present in my previous press, so this has already greatly improved my morning coffee experience. Contrary to the product description, however, the pot did not stay cool. It wasn't boiling hot, but it was too warm to touch. Does this mean the vacuum seal isn't properly sealed on the outside? We drank the pot straight away so I can't tell if it stayed hot for a while, but I have a feeling it didn't retain much heat. I'm giving 3 stars because the description is misleading.
