Review on Audio Technica AT VM95C Moving Turntable Cartridge by Drew Gengler

Revainrating 4 out of 5

For $34 you absolutely couldn't have done better.

I placed this cart on top of my third turntable in my living room. There is no justification for buying an expensive car when only old records are played and my child will probably use it. Like the looks, the sound, the expandability, the cost. everything about it is perfect. I've had many stylus and cartridge combinations in the past, including expensive orthophonic models. This one is crazy about so much money. Later I will definitely try elliptical and possibly microlinear styli on this car. When I listen to old records, the sound is excellent. For $34 you just couldn't do better. Update: The VM95C sounds very, very good. I now have nude ellipticals and shiabata versions. They all sound beautiful. The Nude and Shiabata ellipticals have more detail and better tracking than the VM95C, but it's not really as noticeable through the speakers. What you pay extra for with more expensive pens is more nuance that can be discerned if you listen closely with headphones. If you are just using this to sit back and listen to vinyl with good HiFi and good speakers the VM95C is just great and highly recommend! I'm still excited after 6 months!
