For the most part it works as I would expect, both for keeping coffee hot/warm and for the slow-melting scent of candles. Weirdly, I turned the device off (no mug on it) and came back a few hours later to find the plate hot to the touch. At first I thought it was because my room was warm and the heat wasn't dissipating, but I noticed it a few times a night if I left it plugged in. sure, you need to build it into your routine to turn it off. I also saw another reviewer's post about having to let it turn itself off instead of hitting the power button to make sure it actually turns off. Something strange is happening with the technology and requires a replacement.
