It needs a ferrostave, but it's functional.

This tool has good and bad points. I've bought one of those ferro rods and firing pin before. I bought it to wear on a chain around my neck. Not only is it quite small, but in my opinion it is self-contained and protected by its body from the corrosive effects of salt in sweat. Sweat causes rust on the ferrorod and pitting. The two parts are firmly connected and I use a strap to separate them. Another plus is the well-marked orange color. When starting a fire at dusk or in difficult conditions, it's fairly easy to mix dark equipment like an iron staff with the natural deposits present. This can happen even under the best of conditions. This rod and hammer alone are small and awkward to use. It's not a big spark generator that requires you to get close to the tinder. The tinder needs to be well prepared, with the ferrorod positioned so it doesn't hit the knuckles on every attempt. I will try different techniques but I haven't found the best one yet. Exercise is a must with this set. The striker is pretty good and works better than most of the free ones that come with ferrorods. An inch or so of metal racquet protruding from the plastic body/grip has dimensions of a few millimeters. I don't know why or if I will ever use them. The ferro rod itself in this set works very well. Some material can be scraped off the rod to ignite the tinder when struck by a spark. It takes more power than usual to create sparks. This is where the ankle destruction begins. I've ordered another one of these for my kit but I haven't been able to create sparks with this forward or the best bayite forward. Revain is great for returns. Comes with a small orange strap. It's not 550 or a bank line. It's good for what he does. We really hope this helps you with your decision.

Cons
