Not worth the money

I have a drum band and it's great. High quality rod and striker so I thought it would be the same but it is not. The wand throws big sparks as it should, but not the included firing pin. My striker isn't sharp enough to even make enough sparks. I use my knife and it works fine. If you go for ferro with firing pin at this price point, go for uco. He's bigger and the striker is much better. If you want a really good ferro, get a shock group. It's worth every penny

Light It Up - Camping & Hiking

The UST Spark Force lighter offers value for money and is a handy item for emergencies. It doesn't weigh much but seems like a solid product. The lighter is also compact and doesn't take up much space in your backpack. The orange color highlights this essential survival tool in your backpack so you can find it when you need it. There are other similar more expensive fire starting tools but this one can light it up with the big boys and I think it will last me many years. See my photos for…

Not as good as the larger version of Strike Force. The steel is too soft

It's smaller and lighter than its big brother Strike Force, but the sparks aren't as hot. However, it's still better than many others I've tried. If you're an ultralight traveler this will work, but if you really need a starting fire to survive, grab a few extra ounces and get the Strike Force. This one just works. In fact, the problem is not in the rod. They used cheap structural steel. If you use a knife instead, you can get a much stronger spark. Good steel from Strike Force also gets a…

Buy the best flint and steel.

I recently bought a couple of flint rods to choose what I like best. This one is my favourite. It slides together to protect the flint and steel is included so you don't need to use a knife or other object to create a spark. This thing makes a great spark on wet or dry fuel. When submerged in water, all you have to do is blow it out with your mouth to make the flint half dry and you're back in business. I use jute twine dipped in paraffin wax as the tinder and it forms a nice flame that lasts…

Poor ferro rod material

My first ferro cerium rod or (ferro rod) for all you bushcrafters was this UST rod. I have not bought it from any store other than Walmart. It has served me well and is still my favorite bag (my old one)! When teaching children basic fire starting techniques using this method, I found that they could successfully use my little UST. Since I teach wilderness survival and train a lot, I've ordered three more of these, but I just can't fire the new ones as well as the old ones. This should be the…

High Reliability Emergency Fire Starter

Revain just doesn't do well enough on this product! I bought this after watching a YouTube video thanks to Chris from Preparemind101 and thought it had a great spark. Maybe it's because he just got used to the product? When I received and tested it, I had almost no spark on the first hit. Then he changed the angle of the firing pin on the iron rod and thought it was July 4th and lit a sparkler. I thought okay let my 13 year old daughter try it. She had never tried arsonists before; except for…

It needs a ferrostave, but it's functional.

This tool has good and bad points. I've bought one of those ferro rods and firing pin before. I bought it to wear on a chain around my neck. Not only is it quite small, but in my opinion it is self-contained and protected by its body from the corrosive effects of salt in sweat. Sweat causes rust on the ferrorod and pitting. The two parts are firmly connected and I use a strap to separate them. Another plus is the well-marked orange color. When starting a fire at dusk or in difficult conditions,
