My first ferro cerium rod or (ferro rod) for all you bushcrafters was this UST rod. I have not bought it from any store other than Walmart. It has served me well and is still my favorite bag (my old one)! When teaching children basic fire starting techniques using this method, I found that they could successfully use my little UST. Since I teach wilderness survival and train a lot, I've ordered three more of these, but I just can't fire the new ones as well as the old ones. This should be the material the bar is made of. So until UST restores my confidence in their product I cannot use this rod for training purposes and cannot recommend it to you, or at least new rods or at least a batch of them.
