Works well for distance learning if you follow the right steps.

This fall we used 7 of these for online classes using Google Meet and Zoom and we even had to split classes to keep our distance. The microphone and camera allow the teacher to move from the projection board to the screen and their desk while the students can still hear and see them clearly. The speakers are great for students speaking from home. Even in 20 x 30 foot rooms, students hear well at home. Some people use records. 1.) We use teacher laptops with a connecting tower that the ConferenceCam connects to. Frequent plugging and unplugging when teachers take their laptops home, especially when updating Windows, and plugging and unplugging other devices such as Smart Boards and Visualizers, PCs, and ConferenceCams can lose full connectivity. Turning off and on the power of PC, Link Tower and Conference Camera always solves this problem. 2.) Teachers need to ensure they play audio from video content, for example by showing the video on their smart board through their separate speakers from their PC. When playing it through a conference camera, automatic echo cancellation prevents kids from hearing the sound well at home. 3.) Both Zoom and Google Meet usually show teachers their videos as mirrors. This is problematic for students in the room when the teacher is sharing their visualizer, as everything is mirrored to the students in the room, even though this is normal for kids at home. For zoom, you can choose not to mirror. For Google Meet, the teacher needs to view the video camera on the Smart Board and then share the video from the Smart Board conference camera with the students at home. It adds complexity and the image quality isn't as sharp, but it works. (Google has indicated that they are developing a 'don't mirror my video' option, however this is not yet available as of 11/2020). Many thanks to the teachers who teach in separate classes and combine in the classroom and in the classroom. Homeschoolers and juggling all those technological details the way they do! You are heroes!
