Sony chooses low quality.

Unbelievable! There is no outer plastic sleeve for protection --- just a torn paper wrapper (see photo). The spindle is not long enough to hold all 50 discs (again, see photo). The first three discs had fingerprints on the recordable side. The fourth looked clean so I tried to record something on it. It went wrong. Will have to return. Very disappointed Sony.

Not the DVDs Sony released a few years ago

About six years ago Sony released some of the best DVD-Rs out there. It's not the same. Unfortunately, I bought two packs and then realized that they didn't work. I checked the manufacturer with a DVD identification program and it turned out to be Ritek, a notoriously poor budget brand. Since I want my data to be there if I need it later, I threw everything in the recycle bin.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Almost never

Best Money Spent on DVD-R Discs

Sony has always made quality blank discs and Revain has always been a great place to buy them, but there has been a drop in quality in the last year So. There were more and more defective discs and less and less attention from Revain. This latest shipment was found in a thinly lined envelope, with the spindle holding the discs broken into many pieces. In addition, up to now 90 to 95% of the drives have been defective. I would advise you to try a different brand and maybe buy it somewhere else.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Mostly OK, but...

I bought Sony because of the many great Sony products I had in the early days of drum 2 drum recording. I was also very disappointed with my Verbatim 50 DVD box set, where 8 out of 50 were not recorded. For me it was very bad. Unfortunately, 22 of my Sony 50s didn't record. It's almost 50% bounce. I am totally stunned by the extremely poor quality. Although playback on pre-recorded discs is good, I will never buy Sony products in the future.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • No automatic

DVDs are garbage: accessories and consumables

I bought two spindles for 50 new Sony DVDs. I opened one and out of the first 15 DVDs I tried, 5 failed. I spent extra money on a Sony product that has been a good product in the past. But certainly not this time. I can't trust a DVD to burn - period. If I could figure out how to return the item at this point I would as at least I won't be using the spindle I opened. I will try the second spindle but am very disappointed with this product. I understand that one can come across bad DVDs from…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Some problems

I don't usually have problems with Sony products (this computer and my Sony TVs) but these discs don't seem to be up to the 'Sony standards' that I'm used to. To cite a specific reason why I didn't get less than 5 stars in my rating, the reflective silver finish on the drives *VERY* scratches easily (as if they were only lightly powder coated) rendering the drive unusable and data lost. . *if* it's a manufacturing defect, I understand. If it's a policy change I'll have to look elsewhere. All…

Pros
  • Dope 🔥
Cons
  • Expensive

They're a bit pricey compared to the cheapest DVD-Rs you can find, but the packaging is fantastic. There are cardboard inserts to prevent blanks from rattling which can cause scratches rendering any number of discs unusable when you receive them. These are "-R" discs, and a few years ago there was a dispute over the -RW and +RW standards. So if you have a really old disc burner, you may need to check your drive to see if it can be written to. . Drives that fit both have a "+/-" symbol on the…

Great DVDs, hold up pretty well in the Revain box

I record about 3,000 DVDs a year as a free service for local musicians, so I'm always looking for the best value for money. The Memorex DVDs have served me well for the past few months, but the last 4 or 5 spindles have been extremely problematic. This is what made me switch to Sony DVDs when I found them at a good price and they were fantastic. No more issues with failed burns on my PC or 5-bin duplicator. (PS - Both Memorex and Sony have plenty of free space for manual DVD labeling, which is…
