I wore it around my neck and tried to turn it on to keep warm but I couldn't figure it out. I tried to say "Put your collar on", I pressed the tongue, shook it, twisted it. None of this will cause it to generate heat. I think maybe it's temperature activated because once the ambient temperature was warm enough for me to be comfortable, I started to feel warm.
