This was my first attempt at doing something like this and I succeeded. I managed to scratch the corner of the LCD a bit but it's barely noticeable. The worst part is clearly removing the old glass. The glue they use to hold it on is difficult to peel off. I found the tools they provided a bit inefficient as they bend easily so I had to use some of the other tools I had. Ultimately it was a success. I bought thin double sided tape because they only give a few small pieces. The tablet now looks and functions the same as the original. I'm not sure I'd do it again on a tablet that old, but if it's a newer tablet I think it's a more valuable option. Of course, you can buy the kids version and get a 2-year replacement guarantee, no questions asked.
