They're strong enough to withstand whatever you want to put in them. I find 1/4 pins work best. I'm concerned about how sharp the back of the panel is. On a smooth wall, I wouldn't be surprised if the pain bulges out a little or travels backwards. Of course, this can easily be solved by placing a piece of cardboard behind the panel. Screws are included, but I found nails can hold it in the thinner slots between the pinholes as well. They clearly weren't designed for this, but they worked better for my setup and still contained everything I needed. I lost a star because the back of the strips are so sharp. I've used them around my house and don't want the paint to chip or crack so I was very concerned about sharp edges and corners.
