This review is for the G815 which has been completely redesigned from the G810. I know price is a big issue for a lot of people but if you are reading this you have money and are trying to decide if it is worth it. The KB is the part of the computer that you will touch the most. More than any mouse, touchpad or trackball. Therefore, a significant change will have a real impact on your experience with a computer. I thought this keyboard was fantastic, but with some troubling issues. Worth my money, but is it worth it to you? Continue reading. So what I like: Super thin but heavy enough not to move at all. Stable as a Rock - Fast. It really seems a lot faster. My typing speed increased immediately. - Smooth, linear keystrokes, no noise, no fuss, no clicks. - The metal body looks and feels professional, of the highest quality. That's how it should be for the price - Small key spacing means less fat fingering - A super programmable key indeed. For example, I only have the logo for the light effect and the rest of the buttons are static. The G HUB program that sets up the lights and macros was so intuitive that I figured out how to use it just by fiddling with it. I was able to make many interesting changes to my knowledge base. I customized my buttons with different colors to indicate functions. So most of the keys are white, but my F keys are yellow, my G keys are orange, my windows and audio keys are blue, my caps, num, scrlk, pause, prtsc keys are green, etc. Allows you to look and identify peripherals and less wrong key presses - A small illuminated bar on the spacebar. Nice gesture. Heavy-duty cable and rubber protection. wicker trunk. Built with a conscience. Pretty IMHO. YMMV - Audio control is simple and responsive - Separate programmable/macro keys (G-keys). Sure, they could fit a different function into the F-keys, but separating them means one-touch activation. When the game is just better. The biggest argument I see against separate G-keys is the larger KB size. But not here. My old Azio KB without these dimensions is about 18¼ inches (46 cm) wide and this one is about 18½ inches (47 cm) so there is a ¼ inch (1 cm) difference. My standard HP work keyboard is 18 inches, so even there the difference is minimal. If you don't update the knowledge base without a numeric keypad, it's not a problem. They achieve this by having a much narrower border between the edge of the keys and the edge of the KB. Intelligent design. I thought I'd miss the built-in palm rest, but that's not the case. With this much thinner KB, it's just not necessary. And this change means less front-to-back space. Less than 6 inches (14 cm). Things I found odd: - Requires TWO USB ports. One with the KB icon, the other with the USB icon. Why 2? power requirements? to make the USB connector at the top of the KB pass-through. But it's USB 2.0 and KB isn't that much traffic, so I don't know why they thought a pass-through was needed. Still weird.] - The USB adapter is next to the cable at the top of the KB, not on the side as expected - No scroll lock indicator. It has scrlk KEY but no display. Not that most of us use it, but if you ever accidentally do it, you'll have a heck of a time to figure it out. - No pass-through audio. I don't care but you could. - The keys are raised in a new style above the keyboard so there is empty space underneath. It looks pretty cool, but I'm afraid I'll get caught on the corner of the key's edge and push it out. IDK if it breaks or just pops out at the top. I'd rather not find out. Things I don't know if ke:- The characters !@#$%^&*()_+ etc are just printed on the keys; they do NOT glow. So only 1 lights up on button 1 and NOT ! And they're printed in medium grey, not white, so don't really stand out. In low light - like in games - they are completely invisible. That's the only thing I really HATE about this keyboard. I'm sure someone will tell me to type without looking, but then why highlight the keys at all? And especially with symbols, their placement changes from KB to KB. Any way you look at it, it's a big FAIL. The letters and numbers on the keys are small. They could easily be 25% larger without looking too big and still have plenty of room for characters. And they should have been. They are very clear so even my old eyes can see them but it would be better if they were bigger. - I have yet to figure out how to use the 3 save buttons. I've tried a few things and nothing has worked so far. The manual for the G810, which didn't have these buttons, doesn't help. I haven't found a YouTube video on how to do this. I'll deal with it, but it's a problem. - Speaking of the manual, the closest I could find was the G810 manual and it's a completely redesigned design so there's not much help here. - The website was weird and buggy and had no idea what the G815 was. Something was said about the transition period, so maybe that was it. But wow, just wow. The Caps Lock and Num Lock indicators are white, fairly bright, and not adjustable. You need to stick a tinted plastic overlay on it. Also, it's impossible to read the text printed next to it to tell which are capital letters and which are numbers. Literally black on black. I can understand it, but it's disgusting. Maybe I'll paint it white. The brightest level suits me, but I like less light. It has dimmer levels, but nothing brighter. I don't know why they used such a dim light, especially since it's USB connected, not wifi so there are no battery issues. If I had a fancy PC build that this KB put on a light show, I wish it was a lot brighter. The problems mainly stem from the fact that it had to be revealed by releasing a few prototypes to a handful of players. Overall this is a fantastic keyboard with some unexpected issues for a premium KB. I don't regret the purchase but usually with so many problems I can only give 3 stars. However, this is already my favorite knowledge base of all time, so I'll pick 4. And hey Logitech, if you're reading this, if you need someone to tell you about it in the future, I'd be happy if you do. . Because if you do this now, you won't start these things.
