Lightbulbs emitted a loud pop and a large puff of smoke when first used. The extension cord sacrificed itself by catching a short and making its own click. The lamp is broken too. Total damage: about $100. After this happened I fixed the error and photographed evidence of the problem for evidence. Photo with red/brown paint on top background: A broken cheap socket of this product with the brass contact (for the bulb tip) coming loose. is made on a silver contact (designed for the bulb ring), so there is a short circuit when the bulb is screwed in. Nothing will stop this except a tiny thin piece of plastic. Other 2 photos: the base of this device and the socket. This device was screwed into place where a short circuit caused so much current to flow that it overheated and burned the metal, destroying both permanently. .Look for UL listed products that actually require some safety testing and regulatory reviews.
