This is what my mum used in her kitchen and I had a pair that were over 30 years old and were falling apart. I tried replacing them with a new type of washcloth offered by the kitchen retailer, but despite soaking, the new washcloths never seemed to come back properly clean. These other tea towels also remained stiff and difficult to use on spills. However, they are great. I throw them in the wash and they stay clean and keep their color. Not only does the waffle pattern add to the absorbency, but it also makes it easier to collect crumbs when wiping down counters and tables.
