I just repurchased this cable after my old one finally gave up. The braided cable under the mic and remote came loose fairly quickly (a couple of weeks), but that didn't stop the mic and remote from working. The microphone and remote control have not stopped working for about a year. I finally gave up after about a year and a half, but that was probably due to the fact that I only wear headphones every day, with the occasional snagging on a doorknob or the edge of a desk. To maximize durability, I don't wrap my cable tightly or at all, instead folding it back into the position it was in the package. Conveniently, this time there is even a small Velcro fastener with which I can secure the cable.
