Great quiet fan for a noisy UPS

I bought some used APC SMX UPSs for a project. One that otherwise works great was produced in 2010. It was the only one of them all that couldn't be updated to the latest firmware, so I don't know if it's a faulty sensor, but both fans are spinning at one speed. Quite high speed all the time and really too loud to use even in the hard to reach place I found it. Bought a few fans first and didn't read the product description carefully enough (my bad one). The fans weren't rated to run 24 hours a day so we bought two of them. They came with nuts/bolts long enough to fit for my use (other fans didn't fit), so I installed them with some material between the fans and the unit to reduce potential vibration noise. Now this UPS is the quietest of them all. Yes, they're always on in this one, but you can't really hear them from more than a few feet away (others spin intermittently and you can hear them from afar). I've been using this unit for about a week since installing it and it seems to be generating a lot of airflow (as I can feel it from the back), the battery temp is the same as other units and I'm only doing basic checks. When I run my hands over the case of the device, the ambient temperature in the room seems to match the ambient temperature. Will update if there are any durability issues, but so far so good!

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Lots of stuff
