The reason I bought this amp was to create a better sound system for music to use with my iMac. My old Klipsch computer speaker setup stopped working and my goal was to move away from speakers designed specifically for the computer and produce a much bigger and better sound. I ordered a Revain SMSL Q5 Pro and a set of Polk Audio TSi100 factory refurbished bookshelf speakers direct from Polk. I didn't order a subwoofer, but instead decided on this amp because of the dedicated subwoofer output, among other things. The amp is compact and looks very well built. Robust aluminum body. Very easy to use and works with input options. The treble and bass controls aren't on separate knobs, but they're easily accessible with a single press of the volume button. Bass and treble then appear on the LCD screen, which can be adjusted by rotating the volume knob. The sound reproduction is very pleasant. The Polk speakers I use have an impedance of 8 ohms. When using 8 ohm speakers, the amplifier delivers 45 watts per channel. The end result so far is very, very good. There's enough power to really drive the speakers if you like listening to high volumes. Even without a subwoofer, the amplifier reproduces low frequencies well. I set both bass and treble to +7 (+9 maximum). The music is clear, with punchy bottoms. I haven't found many reviews of people using this just to optimize their computer. So I wanted to give my opinion on using it for this purpose only. Pocketed it for a while, but for now. Highly recommended. Of course, the choice of your high quality speakers also makes a big difference. I'll update if/if anything changes or if I add a powered subwoofer to the mix. UPDATE: The system has been expanded to include a super-compact active subwoofer. Stumbled across a Polk Audio PSW111 300W 8" subwoofer on Craigslist. Couldn't get over the price for a product in excellent condition. Using the dedicated subwoofer output on the SMSL to the LFE input on the subwoofer, I added it. Let me tell "I was immediately pleasantly surprised by the output of the amp. I was able to dial the bass down to 2 and have the Polk TSi100 bookshelf speakers primarily handle the mids and highs while the sub woofer handles the lows. I'm still only an iMac with Plugged in the USB port and the sound is now what I would call great audiophile. Enough power to drive speakers and more than enough power to power a subwoofer. An hour to test and explore the possibilities. One thing I'm into What I read from other reviews was how hot the amp got, I have to say mine got a little warm but not nearly as much as I did would call it hot. Cooler than expected My Denon large network receiver for surround sound g It gets very hot when pressed hard for a long time. Using the SMSL Q5 Pro with Polk Audio TSi100 bookshelf speakers and a compact Polk Audio PSW111 powered subwoofer connected to my iMac via USB couldn't be happier. Crunchy and punchy with lots of power. I highly recommend.
