High quality comfortable shoes with horrible laces

I have bought many of these shoes for my 7 year old son. By "this type of shoes" I mean lightweight, lace-up slip-on shoes, athletic shoes. My son is quite picky about shoes and unfortunately most of these types of shoes which are his favorite start to fall apart fairly quickly, starting at the top. We've only had these shoes for a few months but I can already see a HUGE difference in how well they're holding up compared to Nike and even the last similar pair of Adidas shoes we bought for him. He loves them and they still look brand new which is really saying something! My only complaint about these shoes is that the laces are almost impossible to tie and hold tight unless you double or even triple knot them. They're just too smooth! This is especially difficult for a child who is just learning to tie his shoelaces (our son has autism and ADHD). Even I'm having a hard time getting them to stay tied long enough for me to tie a double knot on the first try! They may look cool, but NO children's shoes should have laces like this. They are just awful to get and stay tied up. At the same time, we like the shoes themselves, their colors are not crazy and they go with everything. Yes, they're expensive, but if they're comfortable and durable, they're worth it! So far, so good. Oh, one more note: I hate children's shoe sizes. I never know if I'm dealing with a little kid or a big kid. It's so confusing! If it helps we bought a size 1.5 toddler for our 7.5 year old and they fit well for growing.
