Very Cool Camera: Surveillance Cameras

The camera for consumer products is a bit fiddly to set up, but once set up it works well. Basically you first connect to your phone like a WIFI network and then connect to your actual Wi-Fi. Once this is done, add it to the application. There is a QR code printed on the camera itself for easy setup if you need to set up more than one camera. The video quality is very good. Obviously the height it's plugged in makes a big difference, but it has a good field of view. There is no sound when you watch recorded video on your phone, but the microSD card (if you use one) does contain sound. Sound triggers for motion detection work very well. My testing has shown that it's good at hearing nearby corners, which activates video recording before there's any visible movement. Physically, I'd like the cameras to be white instead of black since most outlets in the US are white, and this will help the camera blend in better. The software is clearly still under active development, which is also good in terms of customer service. But sometimes you come across things that are still being worked on. Notification System ================ Notifications only work through the LookCamPro application itself and not through text. Also, tapping the toast notification only opens the app, not the specific camera that activated it. Since that particular camera doesn't open, a live video feed will also open showing what's going on in the triggered area. It might write to an optionally installed (but not included) micro SSD, but it definitely doesn't automatically write to your phone. Notifications tend to come in batches, so they use some sort of queuing system in the backend. I usually get multiple notifications for the same camera within a few seconds when using the default settings. Currently, notifications do not automatically download the triggered event thumbnail. This way, if you get multiple triggers, you'll have a list of common symbols with timestamps that you'll have to open each one of them until you find what you're looking for. Notifications themselves can be sent from the app and accompanied by a photo of the triggered area. The moment you click on a notification to view it, it now has a corresponding thumbnail. Suggestion to the developer: -- Make the notification point to a direct link to the camera feed and automatically start recording on the phone when the notification is clicked. -- Make push notifications appear more frequently in the enterprise backend to better separate them for user interaction. Camera Naming ================ Obviously the camera name can differ from the default "Camera" only during the initial setup. After that it is not a setting option. This is a wearable camera, and renaming it should be as easy as moving it from room to room. "Living room" should just be changed to "Kitchen" or something like that. Names also have a very limited number of characters available. The cameras support passwords, which is a good thing. Sharing Cameras =================== There is a feature that allows an app (call it User #1) to share camera feeds with others via QR code to share on their phones. It looks like it's only in person and not via SMS or link. Again, clicking the QR code on User 1's screen does not result in a deep link allowing User 2 to download the app and automatically add the camera to User 2's camera list. But it remembers the alphanumeric ID of the camera. Cloud storage =========== There is an option for that, but I still don't understand how it works. More info when I come across it ==== ================== I will edit the review when I have more actual experience with the cameras and not just testing at home .
