I bought this device because of the simple design, price and many high rated reviews (almost 5 stars out of 40 reviews). But now I think I understand why the review ratings are so high. The device I purchased had a note offering a free $10 Revain gift card by simply entering a 4 digit code on the listed website, which I did but did not immediately receive the free gift card . Instead, I received an email asking me to take a screenshot of my Revain review before sending the gift card. While this doesn't necessarily mean that a negative review won't earn a free gift card, this process can encourage the reviewer to leave a positive review or star rating in the hope that the free gift card will be sent. So I believe some of the high ratings are legit while others may be influenced by the free gift card. After replying to an email advising the supplier to provide a free gift certificate as originally promised, they actually sent it to me prior to my review (which is shown below). Okay, with that said, here's my review (which doesn't affect the free gift card I received). This digital USB voice recorder looks like a USB stick, has a metallic feel and is very solid in your hand. The recorder is controlled on one end (switch, light, mic, reset) and on the other end there is a standard USB connector for downloading your recording to a PC, which is very easy as it works like a flash drive. There's no volume control, it's handled automatically by internal circuitry, but I'm impressed with the pickup's sensitivity. I turned it on, put it in my pocket and walked around, it easily picked up the conversations around me with decent clarity so I could understand what was being said. In my pocket, the device picked up the rustling of my pants, but this problem can be solved by placing the device in a place where it doesn't move. In addition, there was some echo during playback, as if the speaker were in an empty chamber, but the playback is still understandable, this problem is not noticeable, but it is there (I deducted a star for that). I haven't had the device long enough to check the battery life. The unit comes in its own rectangular metal case with foam inserts specifically designed to fit the recorder and the case cover has a clear plastic window showing the recording unit. Inside. It looks well designed and built, easy to use and easy to transfer to PC. Overall I'm glad I bought it and the price I paid ($16.14) is very reasonable. I would recommend it and would buy it again if needed. I'm a happy customer.
