This is the second play mattress I have bought from Dream on Me. They were both 3 inches thick. This is a reliable good product. They fit perfectly in my two different backpacks and Graco toys. As a testament to the durability was the first mattress I used for my baby's sleep and travel until my baby was about 2 years old and outgrew it. My 3 month old now sleeps on the mattress in our room at night until he moves to his own room. It is in good condition and still solid. I bought a second mattress to sleep and play with his Nancy in a backpack. They are easy to wash. As for the volume, I'd say it's a bit loud. I use a mattress topper and a sheet over it and I think it's fine. Most importantly, it didn't affect my children's sleep. For this reason I have given it 4 characteristics, because there are certainly better ones, very quiet and more like a bed, but obviously at a higher price.
